Runner is a short thriller about the anxieties of interacting in the time of COVID-19. A runner exercises in a local park, and suspects that he is being followed by another athlete. He becomes more apprehensive after an anonymous Instagram profile starts following him. Their interactions, both in person and online, escalate. Eventually, the runner confronts the athlete, and reveals that he has a motive of his own. Runner is about navigating unfamiliar emotional terrain during a fraught and anxious time. Social distancing brought an underlying sense of estrangement to everyday life, and Runner examines the consequences of meeting when we must stay apart.
